The Wallow Fire: Before and After

I just wanted to give everyone a very small glimpse of the massive devastation that the Wallow fire has caused to our beautiful mountain.  Last fall I took some gorgeous photos of Escudilla Mountain in all of it's splendor.  I blogged about it, and you can view a taste of it's beauty by clicking here.

Below are a few photos of Escudilla mountain before the fire, and one haunting photo taken after.

After the fire:

The latest size estimates: 539,049 acres

Please continue to pray for our communities as we enter the Monsoon season.  Flash Floods, mud slides, and soil erosion are our next challenges to face.

  1. Wow. It was so beautiful and the devastation is so sad. Hopefully, it'll be beautiful like that again. Will it continue to grow in the years to come even after all the devastation?

  2. Going to take a couple decades to see it all flushed out and green again. And longer to have the real growth. So sad to see that. And erosion is a factor, too, yes. Prayers that it will survive and flourish again. :)

  3. Yes, thank you Rita, I'm certainly no expert, but I've heard that it will take two to three decades before any substantial tree growth will occur, and the first trees to return will be Aspen. One thing is certain...it will never look the same in our lifetime. :(
