Eating Watermelon

This weekend we attended our annual church picnic, and the kids couldn't wait to enter the Watermelon Eating Contest.  There are two things that sustained my children in my uterus: beans and watermelon.  They had no choice but to love them from the womb.  That's why I knew they would be real contenders in this event.  Who doesn't love a slice of refreshingly cool, sweet watermelon on a hot summer day?

The rules were, No hands allowed, and the first one to eat it all of the red stuff wins!  My boy dreams about watermelon, so he was the first one sitting at the table.  After his race was over, he went ahead and ate another  piece to fill him up.

My oldest girl is so smiley, and feminine that I wasn't sure she was going to be able to dive in and get her face full of juice, but she did!  I think she had it up her nose too....and in her hair.....and down her shirt....and in her ears.  She loved it.

Next up was my four year old baby girl.  It was funny because she happened to be competing with a table full of teen aged boys.  They let her cheat and use her hands.  She dove right in there like a champion and I was afraid that she was going to puke that giant piece of watermelon right back up, but she devoured it!

Do you see that medal around her neck?  She was a winner!!  She was the youngest one in the contest, and I think they gave her a medal for bravery, and courage.  Those teen aged boys didn't even make her flinch.  Her love for watermelon outweighed her fear of intimidation by 16 year old boys. That's my girl!
She was covered in sticky watermelon juice from head to toe, but she was all smiles!
